April Monthly Reset: How I Prep My Home & Calendar With Ease

There’s something about a fresh month that feels like a quiet invitation - to slow down, check in, and set the tone for what’s ahead.

I’m not talking about overhauling everything or making massive to-do lists (we don’t need more of those). It’s more about simple rhythms that help life feel a little lighter, a little more spacious.

Here’s how I like to prep my home and calendar at the start of each month to create a soft landing place for the days to come.

Walk Through the House with Fresh Eyes

Take a little time, morning or afternoon, to walk each room and look at it like a guest would. I know this might sound funny, but I pretend Southern Living is about to show up for a feature... or that my niece is coming over with her wildly honest, no-filter commentary. (Mamas, you know exactly what I mean.)

During the walk-through, I usually:

  • Tidy up forgotten messes

  • Refresh tired spaces aka karate chop and fluff the pillows

  • Swap out seasonal touches if needed

I’m notorious for starting a project and getting sidetracked by the director of dog walks (aka Henry), a buzzing dryer, or a Slack ping during work hours. This monthly walkthrough helps me circle back and complete what’s been started.

A few simple resets I love:

  • Swap out decorative hand towels (I use the same base towels year-round, but love to rotate in a seasonal one for fun!)

  • Add fresh flowers or greenery to the kitchen island (Trader Joe’s is my go-to!)

  • Light a new candle or simmer lemon + herbs on the stove just something simple that feels fresh.

Declutter Hot Spots

Next, I declutter the usual suspects. You know the ones. The places we all drop things “for now”... that somehow stay there forever.

My top three:

  • Kitchen counter right where I walk.-in

  • The drop zone by the door

  • My desk/workspace

I’ve tried all the fancy systems and baskets, but truthfully, I either clear the clutter each evening and “put the house to sleep” so it greets us peacefully the next day… or I just flat leave it and tend to it another day, because … well … life.

It’s amazing how a few minutes in these spaces can make the whole house feel lighter.

Calendar Check-In

Now it’s time to sit down with my calendar, both paper and digital, and do a quick sweep:

  • Confirm appointments (hair, doctor, groomers)

  • Add upcoming birthdays or special dates

  • Map out any trips or projects

  • Place any orders I know I’ll need (like Bible study supplies or seasonal things)

This isn’t a big planning session. It’s more of a monthly “duty day” that helps me stay in front of what’s coming, instead of letting the month run me.

It helps me say yes with confidence, and no with peace … because I know what’s already on my plate. Sure, things will shift (they always do), but a loose plan gives me more margin to adjust..

Refresh a Rhythm or Two

Each month, I check in with my rhythms. Not to reinvent everything, but to adjust gently.

I follow a 90-day goal-setting rhythm (more on that soon), so monthly check-ins help me stay on track and realign when needed.

Right now, I loosely plan around three tiers:

  • Plan A: the full ideal day

  • Plan B: the simplified version

  • Plan C: the non-negotiables (truthfully, just coffee most days ☕)

My coffee time is sacred. It’s when I listen to the quiet, pray, breathe in the fresh air, and just be before the rest of the world wakes. That simple ritual grounds me.

Some months, my rhythms are small:

  • Porch coffee + Scripture

  • Sunday reset (laundry, clean sheets, weekly meal plan)

  • A new 5-minute gratitude journal

Other months, I layer in something new:

  • 20-minute weighted workouts on YouTube a few days per week

  • Learning a new skill (hello, guitar!)

  • A monthly yin yoga class around the new moon

These rhythm are gentle ways to anchor myself and adjust to what the season is asking of me.

A new month doesn’t have to be a big overhaul; it’s simply about adjusting the daily rhythms in each season of life.

A few fresh towels. A clear kitchen counter. A calendar that gives you clarity instead of stress.

A little intention goes a long way.
